Avril Lavigne’s Worship song Head over Water, with video and lyrics!

Avril Lavigne is a Canadian superstar singer and songwriter who gained prominence while in her teens, selling over 50 million singles worldwide with her album.

She is very popular with lots of hit songs to her credit, but not one of her songs has ever mentioned God, until now. This is why the world is surprised at this sudden change with her newly released album.

The legendary Pop diva, Rock Star Queen surprised everyone with her latest song after a five years break from music. She is now in the news for coming back to the music scene with a worship song.

Praised and keenly watched for her boldness and confidence in her new faith declaration.

Her song “Head Above Water” was inspired by what she has gone through while suffering from Lyme Disease.  and she talks extensively though the song about how God found and helped her when she thought she was at the end of her life.

She disclosed this in an interview with Elite Daily, “Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’ At that moment, the songwriting of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”

Indeed God is never absent no matter how far removed we are from his presence. God has not forgotten what was stolen, lost or damaged. We can always be joyful and at peace because we have the God of restoration.

Find the lyrics below;

[Verse 1]
I’ve gotta keep the calm before the storm
I don’t want less, I don’t want more
Must bar the windows and the doors
To keep me safe, to keep me warm
Yeah, my life is what I’m fighting for
Can’t part the sea, can’t reach the shore
And my voice becomes the driving force
I won’t let this pull me overboard

[Chorus]
God, keep my head above water
Don’t let me drown, it gets harder
I’ll meet you there, at the altar
As I fall down to my knees
Don’t let me drown, drown, drown
Don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me drown

[Verse 2]
So pull me up from down below
’Cause I’m underneath the undertow
Come dry me off and hold me close
I need you now, I need you most

[Chorus]
God, keep my head above water
Don’t let me drown, it gets harder
I’ll meet you there, at the altar
As I fall down to my knees
Don’t let me drown, drown, drown
Don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me drown
Don’t let me drown, drown, drown
(I keep my head above water, above water)
Don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me drown

[Bridge]
And I can’t see in the stormy weather
I can’t seem to keep it all together
And I, I can’t swim the ocean like this forever
And I can’t breathe
God, keep my head above water
I lose my breath, at the bottom
Come rescue me, I’ll be waiting
I’m too young to fall asleep

[Chorus]
So God, keep my head above water
Don’t let me drown, it gets harder
I’ll meet you there, at the altar
As I fall down to my knees

[Outro]
Don’t let me drown
Don’t let me drown (Don’t let me, don’t let me drown)
Don’t let me drown
And keep my head above water, above water
(Don’t let me, don’t let me drown)
